Hi,

1. I don't think scouts have any better ability to detect enemy units ... it's all about getting them close enough to have Line of Sight (LOS). Since they are just three man teams though, scout teams may be harder to detect. I think having scouts the way they are now ... suits their purpose, and was why they were put into this mod. Also, on most TLD maps there is numerous hedgerows, which limits scout's recon abilities up to the next hedge. This is more evident in this mod, since I've changed the smaller hedgerows to block Line of Sight ... so there is no mysterious firing through several rows of hedges.
2. As for AT Guns ... they are much better off now since there is no medium mortars. If you are still getting taken out by light mortars ... it may be a lucky shot or two, or you need to move them back further and/or hide them better ... in my opinion.
3. Getting off the beaches is hard, and harder with no medium mortars ... hence there needs to be a balance of ATG's surviving every light mortar attack and being able to take an ATG out with a lucky mortar round once in a while.
For more smoke ... there is usually lots of light mortars in the force pool of landing beach BG's ... so it's best to select two for the active roster. It is possible to get off most beaches, even with the best defenders ... it just takes time, and patient strategy.
The German beach BG's have limited force pools, and therefore will eventually get worn down ... while the Allied BG's that are landing have deeper force pools, and will out last the heavy losses.
It is probably best to play 15 minute battles on the beaches ... then the Allies can push to expand the beach in preparation for the next battle at that beach.
Tips for getting off difficult beaches:
a. Use any available cover
b. Try and expand the beach initially, before pushing inland
c. Crawl
d. Use smoke
e. Attack a side with less likely enemy ATG Line of Sight
f. Use multiple units to target ATG, MG, Mortar positions
g. plan your attack for two or more battles to win the map
4. since medium mortars have been removed ... the mortar barrage (as is) is essential to have.
In my opinion, it works well to simulate its purpose. Save it for a known ATG positions, or a large infantry movement, etc. Sometimes it takes out its target, other times it just suppresses ... kind of similar to real mortar barrages.

Thanks again for your comments
David

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
