PostPosted: Thu Apr 28, 2005 3:17 pm Post subject: Does CC cheat? Reply with quote

I've just recently gotten back into playing CC. I have CC 2-4 and just ordered #5.
I'm playing CC4 GC as the Germans and I have been kicking the stuffing out of the Americans (admitedly at the less than veteran level Embarassed ). Even when I go up against fresh enemy troops which have a green star (showing that they have powerful AT an AP capabilities) I don't have much trouble. My infantry is not spotted by enemy armor unless they open fire and my tanks stand a better than even chance of disabling or destroying the enemy before getting hit themselves.

Now, about halfway through the campaign and new Amer. units appear from the South (Patton?). Suddenly the Amer are supermen. My infantry are spotted in buildings by enemy tanks even if they are in the ambush mode. My medium tanks are destroyed by enemy light tanks. It doesn't seem I can do anything against them. Is this CC's way of simulating fresher, more experienced troops?

Ahhh, the phenomena of the immortal enemy. I ran into a Russian flamethrower that took out an entire company I had in ambush in the woods. He seemed indestructable until I dropped him with a 50mm mortar that is usually only good for suppression. Hopefully the AI evens things out in the long run...but then casualties in war do take on a certain randomness.

Yes, the AI does cheat!

Are you using any mods or is this just a straight CCIV GC?

Almost sounds like your playing VETBoB if so that would explain the stronger American troops as the GC wears on.

If it's straight CCIV and you set the Allies at less than Veteran than they get more/beter stuff than one would on Veteran, setting them at Hero gives them less.

If you are playing the straight out of the box CCIV then you really need to download VETBoB and use the sub-plugin,then we can discuss why you "arent" winning. Very Happy

No, it was straight from the box.

However being curious, I just installed vetBob.

What a difference! It's very hard to beat the AI in that mod.

I also put the repainted maps from the down load section into the maps folder. Will this prevent me from playing on line with someone who has not put the repainted maps in but still has just the stock ones?

That would be correct.

The VL's are in different places on the repainted maps.

Good luck on your GC Laughing

I should mention get the patch if you havent already, chances are you did.

Thanks for taking the time to answer platoon_michael.
How would I get back to the original maps? Would I have to do a reinstall of the CC4 out of the box?

Yes CC cheats -- the AI has no other way too increase difficulty after a certain point than too allow itself outrageous flukes of battle. Like:

5 .Lucky shots, tons of luck shots.

4. one mortar round landing directly ontop of a well-hidden sniper.

3. a hand grenade taking out a tiger tank

2. a lone (this one happens the alot) crewman, armed with a handgun, taking out an entire veteran assualt squad

and the number one cheat maneuver of the AI:

1. The crew abanons the tank and kicks the living shit out of everything in it's path

runners up -- gun crews that can take more hits than a tank.

but it's all part of the game. I actually think weird things like that make it more fun and keep it unpredictable.

You would only need to use the CFG. manager that can be found here at CCS.

Then you can bounce back and forth from VETBoB mod/maps to stock game/maps.

Make sure you get the one needed for CCIV.
Install the maps first then the plugin, otherwise you wont see the new maps.

One of my men took out a a MKIV with a hand grenade it CCIV last night. Not a Tiger though.

I also agree it adds to the game.

although some times frustrating, I had a mg al but take out a Abrahams Tank in RSR last week, god I couldn't believe it, it halted an advance and was my last mobile tank, this week, I had two PZRG units armed with PZ Fausts at 40 meters and they couldn't take out an IS2 but the mission before a single man left in a unit took one out with the first shot head on at 80 meters.

Its a bit weird but dose allow for some fun and the "unpredictability of war"
