Thanks for trying to help this one along, Franzauk, but the anwswer to "What units would work here" are, pardon the expression, legion. Among many others, there are Greek Phalanxes, Assyrian Chariots, Roman Legions, Mongol Hordes, Spanish Tercios, Bengal Lancers, the Cheyenne and Lakota Sioux tribes, just about any of Rommel's units and just about any of Schwartzkopf's units.
As Guderian said: "It is all good tank country. Some of it is just better than the rest."
So far we know or can safely assume:
1. This terrain was undeveloped at the time of the battle,
2. The battle occured on the flat lands.
3. It is not somewhere in Africa.
4. The some of the units involved were best used on flat, open terrain.
Any unit would work prefer higher ground. Higher ground seemed to be the bigger objective in WW1 than it was in WW2.
Many of the defenses were fought from over looking bluffs, like Vimy Ridge for example. Germans defended from up high.
Vinyards... WW1... hmm... maybe the farmers were to scared to be plowing the fields every year because of the amount of UXO's in the soil. So they planted the vinyards instead of regular crops.
In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited
and found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some
of the great Close Combat mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank
all the members of our volunteer staff that have helped over
the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
