Hill 168.8 (Orlovo Gorge map1)-248 viewsThe morning was cold and foggy, the air damp. "Tank weather", said Maj Gomille and on a hunch he ordered his abtieling to battle readiness.
Sure enough, the din of battle was soon heard muted in the fog. German infantry of the Grenadier regiment were soon appearing out of the fog, streaming over the hill in front towards the rear area in panic followed closely by a ghostly glow in the fog. T 34's equipped with flamethrowers.
The Soviets had attacked at the seam between the 2 regiments with a whole brigade of flamethrower tanks which struck terror into the heart of the grenadiers.
The Soviets penetrated the HKL and captured Hill 168.8.leaving isolated pockets of resistance to to cleaned up by the following infantry.
Col von Natzmer, the divisions 1A, ordered Maj Gomille to send 6 of his Tigers to headquarters to act as a final reserve. He held the only remaining reserve, Maj Remers I(SPW) batallion of the Grenadier regiment, back for a counterattack and to defend the Shirokaya Gorge position.
The Tigers were all that was left between the Soviets and the division's rear. The first T 34's appeared emerging from the fog, streaming over Hill 168.8.

Your job as the German player is to stop the soviet attack and then counterattack to recapture Hill 168.8 and the Orlovo Gorge in order to restore the front
The Tigers were able to stop the Soviet tanks. The Tigers claimed 29 tanks in the battle. Maj Remer led a counterattack to recapture Hill 168.8 and restore the HKL which was only partly successful. Several Soviet tanks managed to get into Menshinka and caused panic but were surrounded and destroyed by a Pak Sfl in the village.
After this battle the front settled down as both sides were exhausted. The first snow fell a few days later.
