PostPosted: Sun Nov 30, 2008 10:35 am Post subject: Music and other SFX. Reply with quote

I'm about to start making a mod finally and I've been gathering a lot of sounds of WWII weapons from various firing ranges where people own these guns, as well as the internet, and movies that I can record but I don't know how to record these sounds which is a major problem.

I was wondering how I could use some sounds used in other mods and the original Close Combats. For example, how would I go about getting the music from GJS into a format that can be heard in Windows Media Player? I want to do that first to test coverting sounds and the like back and forth without losing them if that's even possible.

I'm thinking about using CC3Hack but the undo button doesn't work and god modding is complicated when you don't know what you're doing lol. Is there something other than CC3Hack I should be using?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT: I found SFX pack nigh invaluable in converting sounds back into .wav format but am I only supposed to use it when unpacking?

Overall questions:

1. How can I record new sounds and get them into the game?

2. How am I supposed to use CC3Hack and SFXPack.

3. What is GoldWave and what do I use it for? Also, is it worth buying?

Pzt_dragoon47, this thread might be helpful to you.

http://www.closecombatseries.net/CCS/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=4679&highlight=

You can use a number of sound editors that can save a wav file. In close combat microsoft chose to use a proprietary format, known as .sfx. This is just a compressed wav file format. The original game sounds are kind of a mix of bitrates, stereo, mono, etc. Once you have your .sfx file unpacked, you can just right click on them to find the stats on each file. Most of the clips in CC are very short in duration, so that presents a bit of a challenge for editing, but certainly easy enough once you get the hang of it.

I'm not sure how to add additional sounds beyond the original number.

Perhaps some other folks can jump in and shed some light on that for you.

Just remember that some sounds are hardcoded so they can't be accessed via the weapons.adb.

cheers

Thanks I'll look into it yukon. I've always wanted to do a Close Combat mod, and my main strength is in finding sounds to create moods and realism. Of course the technology that I need to use after I find the sounds is something I have trouble with lol.

Katyusha, a.k.a. The Stalin Organ

By using SFXPack you can replace the wave yourself, if you have one that is. It can be found in the downloads section, this small program allows you to unpack the waves that are packed inside the Sound.sfx file. The Sound.sfx file is in "The Cauldron (Der Kessel)" mod plug-in (.pln).

Just rename the .pln file extension too .zip then extract the file with IZArc, WinZip or WinRAR (You may not even need to rename it).

Use QClone to view and edit .adb files, if you open up Weapons.adb you'll be able to find out what sound numbers are associated with the weapons. If you want to give it a try you will need to download and install Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine in order too be able to use it. You can find these two files in the downloads section of this site as well.

When your done making changes to the waves and are ready to give them a try, repack them with SFXPacker. It places the packed file in it's output folder which is C:\out.sfx, rename the file back to Sound.sfx .

Put the Sound.sfx file back in the folder that you got it from and zip those same files that you unzipped earlier. Rename the .zip back to .pln .

Check these two links out, their to do with sound modding...
