The Mercenaries and Red Devils Clan have recently completed a clan war.
The 60 Mile Op from Afrika 40'41 was the battleground. The Op was played
Vice Versa style starting February 17th. Mercs started out as Italians and
took on the full force of the British BGs along the entire front. This Op
went right to the finish, there were many vicious battles and supply upsets
throughout. Round one ended March 17th with a Major Axis Victory for the
Mercenaries. The final score of round one was 271 vs 104 with 2 VLs contested.
Round two commenced March 23rd with the sides switched. The Mercs decided
on employing a strategy to gain the most ground as possible in the North
and hold fast in the South. Thier goal was to take Sidi Omar in a meeting
engagement, and take the key map Sollum by brute force. At the same time,
no movement would be taken in the South. Sollum proved to be the decisive
battle of the entire Op. Mercenaries took full control of the map in two
days while taking approximately 150 casualties. Once this map was open,
the Mercenaries moved to Fort Capuzzo, a major supply dump, and cut off
all remaining Red Devil BGs in the South. After five days of being cut off,
and unable to retake Fort Capuzzo the Red Devils surrendered and the clan
war ended on March 31st. Overall this was a very exciting war with allot
of lessons learned about the mod. Particularly the British Matildas proved
to be extremely strong and versatile units. The Italian 20mm AA gun was
key to chewing up enemy infantry. Overall one of the most important units
each side can utilize are the Forward Observer teams, they can lob tons
of huge shells on enemy positions if they have LOS. Check out the final
results and various Merc units that stood out in battle by clicking on the
images to the right. The Mercenaries
Forum has been re-opened to the public where you can read the AARs and
strategy in there.

reports... "The Desert Rats (aka 7th Armoured) are battling Deutches Afrika
Korps in the streets and rubble of Stalingrad. The fighting is taking place
in the Western sector. There are currently nine days remaining in the operation,
click on the image to the right for the latest casualty rates. Lately, the
most active DAK players have been Rommel, Von_Manteuffel, Sori, and Opaco.
Zaidamanuel played a lot in the past as well. The 7th Armoured active players
are Bjorn, Ghoa, D6H, Sickf, Weefunk, Hedges. Kassad and Kidmayhem will
soon be playing as well. This has been a great operation - very intense
with lots of close-in fighting (sometimes with little ammo and cut off like
in Flight School). Flight school fell today to a well-executed attack by
DAK_Rommel. I'll post more AARs soon in the AAR
Section. Great playing with you DAK! Visit the
7A Forum and the DAK Clan
website for more info on the clans and thier activities. The new 7A site
is under construction at www.desertratscc.com."

has been posting his monthly updates on his upcoming mod, Operation Circle. In
his March news he states, "After the initial period when I hardly worked on the
data and graphics (some of them coming of course from SDK), I have spent more
or less the two previous months on the mod maps. I remember that, initially, I
was expecting to paint only some new maps and use as much as possible the SDK
ones…. In fact, the mod will likely have something like 25 or 30 totally new custom
maps, the remaining being either SDK maps where the sector are common between
the two mods, or slightly modified SDK, most of the time with added fortifications."
You can read his complete post and find out all about this new mod in this
thread.
Ernie_M
has come out with another new map, Longchamps. The town was located approximately
2km N.E. of Champs. Major battles were fought here. The roadways and topography
are fairly accurate and "Loosely" translated from current maps. Read the
history file for full details. This map requires a manual install. Backup
your C:/Program Files/Close Combat IV/Maps/Champs.*/ files to another folder,
then copy ALL files in this zip to the CCIV maps folder. Download longchamps.zip. |

Lasse has created three new maps recently. Bells1, Bells2 and Taip01. Bells1
& 2 are wooded open country maps, and Taip01 is a winter tundra type map.

Our Afrika stand alone version made by Mafi was missing a few maps. Thanks to
Nembo these were identified and added to the stand alone version. If you ran into
any problems with missing maps please download Afrika again, Afrika
Stand Alone Install. To install this version, you need to have the original
CC2 installed on your harddrive. When that is complete, simply unzip Afrika to
a separate folder and play.
Here at CCS, our donations
page has been fully updated. Thanks to everyone that's contributed some of
thier hard earned cash so far. We hope this service meets your expectations! If
your wondering why we are taking donations, just click on the link and its fully
explained. To summarize though, donating money is just a way to say thank you,
this site is privately sponsored each year by five community members. We are not
donation dependent. Now I know it was mentioned
last month that the Warhammer mod (beta) for CC5 was coming, its taking quite
awhile to get it, and comms are sporadic with zCharles. We'll keep everyone in
the know. Capt_JB_Mac has released Overlord 3.1 and submods for Stalingrad, Afrika
and El Alamein. DAK_Legion
has also released his Gung Ho mod v1.0 for CC5. These files came in too late to
test and review to add them to this story, we'll be adding them to the site shortly.
Cross of Iron news has been a long time coming, bare with us on this, since everything
is so new we are taking our time settings things up and reporting anything on
it. You can visit CSO
Cross of Iron Forums, or Matrix
Games CoI Forum. That's all the news we have for now. If you'd like to submit
your own news to tell the community just click on the Submit News link on the
left hand side of your screen. Remember this site is best viewed in resolutions
