Close Combat Player's News Local News Thank you to our latest four cash contributors! Jscusmc69, Blitzpig_Jagger, Bordic (2nd time!) and Councilhater. Your contributions are greatly valued. There are a few minor changes to note around the site lately. Code clean up, fixing colours and some new additions to the forums. Please be patient with the new changes, they cover some of the operating costs. The Close Combat Wiki page needs some updates, will anyone be brave enough? CCS recieves thousands of visitors every mont from Wiki browsers. If you have any ideas on how this web site can be improved, please voice them in the Community Ideas Forum.

Multiplayer NewsSchrecken reports that between September 6th and October 13th the Operation Mars MMCC3 server had 1300 battles! Certain unnamed parties were hard at work cutting off large swaths of Russian maps. The victory went to the Germans in the end and the server has since been reset. There are currently three campaigns ongoing, Russian Front 41'45 on server 64.111.28.17 ports 2108 and 2110 and Operation Mars can be played at 64.111.28.17 port 2109. We should be publishing a guide on how to create your own MMCC3 campaign which upon completion can be hosted online for everyone to play, stay tuned.

For everyone who has acquired Wacht Am Rhein there are new ports you may need to open in your firewall for playing online. Open TCP and UDP ports 6072 and the range of 2303-2400. WaR does not support DirectPlay like the Battle of the Bulge did. This means both Gamespy and BHQ will not connect you to your opponent. The host must start a UDP or TCP game and give his IP to the opponent. The opponent enters the IP and searches for the game. More detailed instructions start on page 61 of the manual.

For Invasion Normandy Grand Campaigners out there who may be new to it all, we have some resources to help you along. To get started playing a campaign have a look at our Grand Campaign Guide. The guide details how to choose a partner, which rules are most popular online and has helpful tips and detailed campaign maps to help your strategy. The Anti Armour Guide has many useful strategies that will work with all versions of Close Combat, including Wacht Am Rhein. For the complete list of guide, visit Invasion Normandy Guides section.

Our Hamachi network is seeing steady usage. Some of you may notice you have been removed from the room, Zappi has recently cleared out all the inactive users to make room for new players. For those of you that haven't yet joined Hamachi, visit www.hamachi.cc and download the client, our network name is Close Combat Series and the password is ccs. Players out there with the cronic firewall blues, this may be your answer.

If you are one of the few who are still playing Close Combat 1 or 2, including the demos for Mac, there is a place to play them online. Visit Game Ranger where thousands of other Mac users play. GameRanger includes ladders, chatrooms, voice comms and many other features.

Close Combat Modding Ifni has created Realistic Weapons Artwork which is an addon to some currently released mods. These submods that can be downloaded and installed are Okinawa, Battle of Berlin and Ardennes Offensive. They change many of the weapon and unit icons within the forcepool selection phase and during game. Ifni has converted all three to plugin format. Unzip the plugins to your /Config Manager/Plugins folder. Each mod is meant for that mod only and may corrupt other installs.

DAK_Legion has created template files for CCImages.pix file for Invasion Normandy. The templates are all in PSD format so you will need Photoshop to edit them. Some of the screen templates included are boot camp, command, multiplayer, main and soldier screens. These templates should help any modder with creating a new game interface.

The RankMod created by AT_BlackCat back in 2004 has been a favorite enhancement of many gamers to Invasion Normandy and Gold, Juno, Sword. The primary purpose behind the mod was to be able to select teams with all the highest characteristics during the battlegroup selection phase. This small mod places a number that corresponds to the level of the shown characteristic and rank. The advantage of this is not having to judge or remember the height of the bars when selecting troops. This is particularly helpful when constantly swapping out teams to get the highest ratings.

Adding these changes to your mod is not very difficult. Most of the work would be extracting the images from the gdg files and inserting them into yours. The rank numbers would require image editing on your part, this is where the manual work comes in to play. This small enhancement is a worthy addition to all mods and would be appreciated by all who play.

Download the Invasion Normandy Rankmod & Gold, Juno, Sword Rankmod.

Close Combat Invasion Normandy NewsStasiuX has created a new patch for Invasion Normandy. The patch fixes all the same things the old one did, the only difference is during the install phase. The old patch would not install properly on all machines if you specified a folder, for it to work you usually had to leave the folder box with its default selection. This new patch reads where your installation is from the registry and installs accordingly. Both patches are available here, please report any problems with the new patch in the Technical Support Forum.

DAK_Legion's Edchera minimod is now available for download. "During their retreat to the south-east on the 13th, the Saharans ambush the 13th Bandera at Edchera . The Legionaries set out early on a reconnaissance patrol and at 10.15 am as they approached the dry bed of the Saguiet el Hamra watercourse 500 insurgents open fire on them. The vanguard (2nd) company was pinned by rebels to their front. The 1st company advanced to their left in support, but the company commander (Capt. Jaúregui) was killed when surprised by enemy fire..." Unzip the Edchera Plugin file into your /Config Manager/Plugins/ folder.
The zipped file contains two scenarios, place them into the SSIClose Combat Invasion NormandyGamesSave folder.

Tech Support The Troubleshooting Guide has been updated with the Config Managers "error code=5" solution. Just a reminder out there for Vista users, your first actions upon errors in Close Combat should be to run the game as administrator and try different compatibility modes. Just right click the desktop icon or right click the exe from Windows Explorer to see all the options. Bernd Nowak created a small application CC Starter awhile back. This application simply turns off, or on your DirectDraw settings of DirectX while you play Close Combat. Upon exiting the game it can, if the option is selected, return DirectDraw to its original state. A Windows 98 Compatibility box in case other problems arise. Some laptops that have integrated video cards will not be able to disable DirectDraw.

In August of 2004, Zappi, Homba, Bambam887, RedScorpion and MOOXE all pitched
in to create this Close Combat site. I would to thank all the people who have visited and
found this site to thier liking. I hope you had time to check out some of the great Close Combat
mods and our forums. I'd also like to thank all the members of our volunteer staff that have
helped over the years, and all our users that contributed to this site!
